During high school I had this one art teacher I really loved, and near the end of my junior or senior year I was helping her clean up the classroom in preparation for school to be out, and as a thanks she let me take my pick of a book from her shelf. She had many large and colorful books about art which were all cool, but something drew me to this one, small with a solid green cover, tattered, faded. On the very first blank page there is actually an autograph by Don Blanding. I read the poems over and over. Something about them soothed me in the last half of my teenage years. These days it just sits on my shelf but every once in a while it will cross my mind and I open it to smell the yellowed pages.
